Harris Interactive College Football Poll rankings, Bowl Championship Series (BCS)
standings and other news:
Poll Methodology and Process
On behalf of the Bowl Championship Series, Harris Interactive has constructed
a panel of former players, coaches, administrators and current and former media
who are committed to ranking the college teams each week during the 2007 college
football season. Panelists have been randomly selected from among more than 300
nominations submitted by the conference offices and the independent
institutions. The panel has been designed to be a statistically valid
representation of all 11 Division I-A conferences and institutions participating
in the Bowl Championship Series.
Poll participants will submit their rankings for the Top 25 teams on a weekly
basis during the 2007 season beginning September 23, through December 2. Harris
Interactive will release the results of the overall rankings each week.
Consistent with the desire of the BCS for transparency, panelists’ names and
their individual team rankings for the December 2 poll also will be released.
History behind the Harris Interactive College Football Poll
Harris Interactive launched its
first release of the Top 25 college football team rankings on September 25,
2005. The 11 Division I-A conferences and the independent institutions
comprising the BCS had commissioned Harris Interactive to conduct a new college
football Top 25 poll, results that have become one of the components of the
overall BCS standings formula which determines the participants in the BCS
National Championship Game and other BCS bowl games played each January.
