Wall Street Journal/Harris Business School Survey
Since 2001, The Wall Street Journal and Harris Interactive have been tracking
the opinions and experiences of corporate recruiters. The business school survey
is the only available benchmarking study that assists business schools in
understanding recruiters’ needs and improving their relationships with them.
Developed by Harris Interactive Brand & Strategy Consulting Practice, this
unique study provides a well-rounded understanding of recruiter perceptions
towards business school talent, and the characteristics they consider most
important when hiring graduates.
The 86 business schools included in the
study are rated on 21 key attributes by recruiters who directly work with the
school, and have the specific experience with the schools and their students.
These attribute ratings help identify a school’s perceived strengths and
weakness among recruiters, which can also be examined in comparison to other
schools.
The Year 7 Recruiter Insights Report provides school leaders with practical
insights as to how to address specific perceptions of their schools and their
graduates, and implement improvements where needed. Looking forward, the study
also provides a sense of the recruiters’ intended supportive behaviors towards
specific schools. Tracking the evolution of these perceptions along the
attributes also helps business schools in affirming their progress in certain
areas.
Year 7 Survey
The results of The Wall Street Journal/Harris Interactive Year 7 Business
School Survey were published in a special section of The
Wall Street Journal on September 17, 2007. The survey is based on the
opinions and experiences of 4,430 M.B.A. recruiters. The interviews were
conducted online between December 19, 2006 and March 23, 2007.
In order to make relevant comparisons, the 86 schools are grouped according
to where recruiters tend to recruit, resulting in three rankings: National,
Regional, and International.
- National Ranking Includes 19 U.S. schools
- Regional Ranking Includes 51 U.S. schools
- International Ranking 25 schools (9 U.S. schools, 11
European schools, 3 Canadian schools, and 2 Latin American schools)

Year 7 Recruiter Diagnostic Report: Purchasing Business School Survey Results
The Diagnostic Report is a comprehensive report with trending data from the
Year 6 study and valuable competitive information. It provides a comprehensive
set of school specific results for the importance and perception/supportive
behavior ratings. Schools can also compare their results to the aggregate for
their cluster, as well as the aggregate of a customized competitive set, which
they chose. Where applicable, schools that appear in more than one ranking
list may purchase additional research findings.
